Karim Benzema’s Ballon d'Or Boots by adidas

“World football has just welcomed a new winner in Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who was the runaway favorite after spearheading Madrid’s successful Champions League campaign and netting 44 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions.”

“Benzema’s win in Paris last night is the pinnacle of the Frenchman’s career so far, who’s been playing — and consistently scoring — at the top level since 2005. The forward moved to Real Madrid from his home club of Lyon in ‘05, and since then, he’s been one of Adidas Football’s longest-serving athletes.”

“Benzema’s boot of choice, the X Speedportal, has been customized with gold accents, sole plates, and aglets that are inspired by the tones of the French tricolor.”

The 2022 award was the first ever in Ballon d’Or history to be given for performances across the European footballing season and no longer for the previous calendar year. In reference to this, the awarding season 2021-22 is written above the ‘wings’ of the speedframe.

“The boots come with a luxurious look, with a white base playing host to an overlaid gold graphic that plays out across the upper. The gold continues on the underside, with a chrome finish transitioning from heel to forefoot, where the studs carry the golden hues. The heel then features a final sign off in the form of a stylised version of the name “Benzema”, with a golden ball that denotes the Ballon d’Or, sitting above.”

The spiral graphic is taken from the Real Madrid home jersey of the 2021-22 La Liga and UEFA Champions League winning season which reflects the fountains in the Plaza de Cibeles, an area of Madrid synonymous with the club – a place where fans unite to celebrate winning titles.

“Benzema’s win in Paris last night is the pinnacle of individual achievement for a player who’s been balling at the top level since 2005 and as one of adidas’ longest-serving athletes, it’s only right for the Three Stripes to celebrate this moment in style.”

“A new film, ‘Hand of Gold’, shows Benzema’s iconic hand bandage – which he’s worn in every game since 2019 – turn from white to the colour of victory, telling the inspiring story of a young boy from Bron in France who overcame endless on-pitch battles to make it to the top.”
